towards freedom and greater heights
down came the Union Jack
and atop has remained
Majestic Jalur Gemilang
Hundreds of contigents
Thousand of proud participants
Took part in a mammoth event
Witnessed by enthusiastic spectators
All waving colourful flags and banners
Diplomats and dignitaries
State and Federal Ministers
Graced the momentous occasion
And honoured the historical event
As fighter jets soon passed
And helicopter spinned by
Patriotic poems and tunes were rendered
School children formed National Logo
Transforming the scene into a sea of colours
Bringing the patriotic favour to the pitch!

Invoked in Malaysian many memories
Powerful, poignant yet sweet
Reminiscene of that 44 years ago
When Tunku shouted “Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!”
